Herricks Public Schools welcomed students back on Sept. 1 with school spirit, smiles and a focus on building meaningful connections.
Students in kindergarten through 12th grade began the 2026-27 school year with the district’s “soft start” approach, designed to create a welcoming environment and ease the transition back to school. First introduced at Herricks High School in 2023, the initiative has since expanded to all grade levels.
Throughout the day, students met their teachers and classmates, explored their new learning environments and participated in team-building activities. By emphasizing belonging and relationship-building from the first day, the district aims to strengthen the social and emotional foundation that supports student success.
