Mineola Public Schools Names Amaris Melendez Principal of Hampton Street School

At its July 31 meeting, the Mineola Board of Education announced the appointment of Amaris Melendez as the new principal of Hampton Street School.

Ms. Melendez, who joined the district in 2024 as an Instructional Leader, brings exceptional skill, passion, and a strong belief in inclusive education. Her leadership is rooted in collaboration, equity, and a commitment to instructional excellence, strategic visioning, and community-building.

“Early childhood education has been the heart of my work and expertise throughout my career, and I am thrilled to bring that passion to Hampton Street School,” Ms. Melendez said. “These formative years are filled with wonder, curiosity and incredible growth, and I look forward to partnering with our dedicated staff and families to create a joyful, nurturing environment where every young learner can thrive. It’s an honor to join the Hampton Street School family and continue building on the great work already happening here.”

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Nagler praised the appointment: “We are thrilled to appoint Amaris Melendez as the new principal of Hampton Street School. As a respected instructional leader, she brings a deep understanding of our community and a strong vision for student success. We know she’s the perfect fit to lead Hampton Street into its next chapter.”

Ms. Melendez holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Brooklyn College, a master’s degree in childhood education from Long Island University, and a master’s degree in school leadership and supervision from the College of Saint Rose.
