First graders at Herricks’ Searingtown School made a splash as they kicked off an exciting year of learning with a surprise celebration.

To mark their very first day of school—and the school’s traditional “Fun Friday”—students were treated to a Pop-Up Pool Party. The event brought smiles, laughter, and plenty of joy as the young Scotties dove into both fun and learning.

Highlights of the day included diving into a good book, playing a lively game of “musical rafts,” and a special visit from reading specialist Mrs. Bowie, who joined the celebration as the honorary lifeguard.

The playful, reading-themed pool party was more than just fun—it was designed to encourage teamwork, imagination, and a love for books, setting the tone for the year ahead. With this joyful kickoff, Searingtown’s newest learners are ready to embark on a year filled with adventures, growth, and endless possibilities.
