Willets Road School, part of the East Williston Union Free School District, has achieved national recognition as a School to Watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform—an honor shared by only 42 middle schools across New York State.

The prestigious designation celebrates schools that excel in fostering academic excellence, responsive social-emotional support, and a strong sense of community among students.

“This distinction allows us to network with other middle schools in the state and across the country that are engaged in great practices,” said Willets Road Principal Christine Dragone. “It will allow us to share what we do well and learn from others in our pursuit of continual growth and achievement.”

The journey to becoming a School to Watch involved a rigorous two-year process. Willets Road educators began with an in-depth self-assessment, followed by a two-day site visit from program administrators and fellow principals. During the visit, the team observed classrooms, met with students, families, and faculty, and engaged with district leaders and Board of Education members.

The school will be officially recognized at the National Forum’s annual conference in Washington, D.C., on June 26.
