Wheatley Track Team Shines — Shannon Flachner Makes Her Fifth Appearance

Wheatley continues to make school history on the track.

This season, the Cross Country and Track program not only captured one Class C Nassau County Champions in the Long Island Champions — but also sent outstanding athletes to the New York State Championships, including 12th grader Shannon Flachner.

Shannon’s appearance at States marks a remarkable milestone: her fifth time competing at the state level, beating her own time this year, an achievement few athletes ever reach. Even more impressive, her journey began back in eighth grade, when she first joined Wheatley’s Cross Country team. Season after season, Shannon has demonstrated grit, consistency, and a level of dedication that has become a defining part of Wheatley athletics.

While the team didn’t bring home a state medal this year, simply qualifying for States is a major accomplishment — and one that reflects the strength of the program, the commitment of the athletes, and the guidance of their coaches.

Congratulations to Shannon and all the Wheatley athletes who competed at the state level. Your hard work, sportsmanship, and Wildcat pride continue to raise the bar for Wheatley athletics.
