Wheatley Student Named Nassau County’s First Teen Poet Laureate

Congratulations to Katherine Galbraith-Chan, who has made history as Nassau County’s first-ever Teen Poet Laureate!

Katherine was also selected as the recipient of the Nassau County Teen Poet Laureate Scholarship Award, a prestigious honor recognizing her talent, creativity, and dedication to the literary arts.

Katherine earned this remarkable distinction through a competitive application process that included samples of her original work, her resume, and glowing letters of recommendation. Her poetry stood out for its depth, voice, and originality—qualities that earned her this groundbreaking role.

Mrs. Walbroehl was pivotol in her invaluable support and mentorship throughout the process. The community looks forward to the inspiration she will bring to young writers across the county.
