North Side Community Rallies Around the Powers Family, Raising More Than $70,000

The North Side community came together in an extraordinary show of love and support this weekend as alumni, parents, teachers, students, and neighbors gathered for a special fundraiser benefiting the Powers family.

The afternoon featured a spirited Teachers vs. Moms softball game, but the day was about much more than the score. It was a celebration of community, compassion, and standing together during a difficult time for a family that has long been part of the North Side family.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of those who attended, donated, volunteered, and participated, more than $70,000 was raised, with every dollar going directly to support the Powers family.

Organizer Michelle Cavallaro reflected on the impact of the day, saying, "Today was more than a fundraiser—it was a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together. The love, generosity, and support shown for KP and the Powers family was truly overwhelming. Mrs. Powers has not only made a profound impact on the lives of all my children in the classroom, but she has also been a true role model for them."

Fellow organizer Jimmy Eichner said the outpouring of support reflected exactly who Kelly Powers is to the community.

"The day that we had was the exact reflection of what Kelly means to the community," Eichner said. "She is loved by many, and we were all happy that she got to experience that love during this battle. She's the best."

He added, "I am extremely proud to live in a place and raise my kids in a place where a community can be so selfless and give so much—time, effort, compassion. Things that this world could use a lot more of."

The event served as a powerful reminder that the North Side community is more than a school—it is a family. In times of need, that spirit shines brightest, proving once again what it truly means to be KP North Side Strong.
