Mineola students across multiple grade levels celebrated “Be the Change Day” on Oct. 2, honoring the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi through activities focused on kindness, empathy and community service.

Throughout the district, students explored how small, thoughtful actions can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

At Mineola High School, tenth grade Global Studies students put these lessons into practice by creating personalized bookmarks featuring inspirational quotes, colorful artwork and encouraging messages. The bookmarks will be donated to the school library to inspire fellow students and visitors.

Second graders also participated, learning about Gandhi’s life and legacy before writing letters reflecting on the importance of kindness, respect and helping others. They contributed their own handmade bookmarks to the districtwide initiative.

Through reflection, creativity and service, Mineola students demonstrated that positive change begins with individual actions and that even the smallest gestures can have a lasting impact on their school community.
