Mineola High School’s robotics team, the “Mineola Wild Reds,” earned high praise at the FIRST Robotics Long Island Regional Competition, held March 19–22 at Hofstra University, where they were awarded the prestigious Engineering Inspiration Award. This honor recognizes teams that demonstrate exceptional success in promoting engineering and STEM education within their schools and communities.
With this award, the Wild Reds have qualified to compete at the 2025 FIRST National Championship in Houston this April.
In addition to the team’s success, junior Igor DeSouza was named a Dean’s List Finalist, an individual recognition given to standout student leaders who exemplify technical expertise, leadership, and commitment to outreach. Igor serves as the team’s co-head of build and treasurer, and has played a pivotal role in mentoring and community engagement.
The competition also featured a special moment as team members Makayla Apter-Quinn and Julia Manevitz performed the National Anthem to open Saturday’s event.
Mineola Public Schools proudly celebrates the hard work, creativity, and spirit of collaboration that define the “Wild Reds” and their coaches. These students aren’t just building robots—they’re building futures in STEM and inspiring the next generation of innovators.
