Students at Center Street Elementary School in the Herricks School District recently rolled out the red carpet for local senior citizens during the school's fifth annual Senior Prom, an event that celebrated friendship, community and connections across generations.

Held on June 4, the special evening was the culmination of a year-long intergenerational initiative led by the school's Service Club, made up of third, fourth and fifth graders. Throughout the school year, students visited local senior groups for sing-alongs, craft projects and game days, fostering meaningful relationships while promoting mutual respect and community spirit.

The annual Senior Prom brought those friendships together for an evening of music, dancing, delicious food and laughter. Seniors, students and invited community leaders enjoyed a memorable celebration that highlighted the strong bonds formed throughout the year.

The event was made possible through the collective efforts of the entire school community, including students, staff and families. Local businesses also contributed generous donations that helped create a special experience for everyone in attendance.

The district also recognized Service Club advisers Janine Gentile and Jillian Valletutti, along with the many staff members and community volunteers whose dedication made the event a success. Their commitment continues to inspire students to work together, give back and make a positive impact in the community.
