Wheatley Senior Brings Revolutionary War History to Life for AP Government Students

History came to life at The Wheatley School when senior Liam Connell stepped into the role of teacher, sharing his passion and expertise as a living historian with students in John Staudt's AP Government class.

Connell delivered an engaging presentation on the American Revolution, offering classmates a firsthand look at the uniforms, equipment and daily experiences of Revolutionary War soldiers. Drawing on his extensive knowledge of the period, he helped students connect their classroom lessons to the realities faced by those who fought for American independence.

The interactive experience encouraged students to think critically about the nation's founding while gaining a deeper appreciation for the people and events that shaped American history.

Beyond the historical lessons, the presentation highlighted the importance of student leadership and peer-to-peer learning. Connell's enthusiasm and dedication demonstrated how students can use their individual interests and talents to enrich the educational experiences of others.

The presentation reflected the East Williston School District's commitment to fostering curiosity, civic engagement and meaningful learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
