Celebrating 100 Years of East Williston

By Elise Vaidya

On April 5, 2026, the Village of East Williston will celebrate a remarkable milestone: the 100th anniversary of its incorporation. While the incorporated village is a century old, its roots stretch back to the 17th century, when European farmers first settled the fertile lands of the Hempstead Plains.

Over time, East Williston evolved from a quiet farming community into the vibrant suburban village it is today—while preserving the charm, character, and strong sense of community that have always defined it.

Tree-lined streets, historic homes, and longstanding institutions reflect a village that honors its past even as it looks toward the future.

Incorporation in 1926 marked a pivotal moment in East Williston’s history. By then, the arrival of the Long Island Rail Road, the growth of residential neighborhoods, and the establishment of local businesses had already begun to shape the community.

Over the past century, the village has carefully balanced progress with preservation—welcoming new families, fostering civic pride, and expanding parks and public spaces, while protecting its historic architecture and cherished traditions.

Every street, building, and green space tells a story of the people who helped shape East Williston and the generations who followed.

As the village marks this centennial milestone, it celebrates the people, places, and events that have defined its history and spirit. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, “I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives,” and nowhere is that pride more evident than in East Williston—a community that has thrived for 100 years and continues to inspire connection, belonging, and shared purpose.

The centennial year will feature special presentations, guided walking tours, and community-wide celebrations. A newly published book will also bring East Williston’s past and present to life, offering new residents a meaningful introduction to the village’s history while giving longtime neighbors the opportunity to discover stories and details they may not have known.

Residents are also encouraged to watch for upcoming links to the community swag store and the East Williston coloring book—a fun and nostalgic keepsake for the young and young at heart.
