A Memorable Summer in East Williston

Summer 2026 was an eventful one in East Williston, filled with milestones, community traditions and plenty of reminders of what makes the village such a close-knit place to call home.

The year marked a particularly special milestone for East Williston, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of its 1926 incorporation in April. The centennial set the tone for a summer that continued to bring neighbors together in celebration of the village’s history and strong sense of community.

Earlier this summer, the East Williston Women’s Summer Softball League celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of friendly competition, camaraderie and summer fun.

In August, residents also took part in the recently re-established annual East Williston garage sale. More than 35 homes participated, offering everything from vintage video games, records and collectibles to clothing, furniture, exercise equipment and much more.

When the garage sale wrapped up, many participating residents posted “curb alerts” on Facebook, offering remaining items for free to anyone who could use them. It was another example of neighbors helping neighbors while also keeping usable items out of the trash.

That spirit of generosity and connection continues online as well. East Williston’s Facebook community has become a place where residents regularly share information, lend a hand and come together when someone in the village needs support.

Of course, summer in East Williston also brought some notable visitors from nature. Bunny rabbits seemed to be everywhere, often making their way toward backyard vegetable gardens and freshly cut lawns. Rabbits can get much of the moisture they need from the plants and grasses they eat, including vegetation dampened by morning dew.

Residents may also have noticed an abundance of mushrooms popping up across lawns this summer. Heavy rainfall, particularly during July and August, followed by warm temperatures created ideal conditions for mushroom growth. While they may not always be welcome, mushrooms are often a sign of active, organic soil beneath the lawn.

As East Williston says goodbye to warm sunny days, beach outings and backyard barbecues, the community now turns toward everything autumn brings — falling leaves, changing colors, pumpkin spice, Halloween and children dressed in their favorite costumes.

After a summer filled with history, community and connection, East Williston has plenty to celebrate as another season begins.
