East Williston Centennial History Breakfast Draws Standing-Room-Only Crowd

By Williston Post Staff

East Williston residents took a step back in time as the village's Centennial Celebration continued with its second event of the year, a popular "Reminiscing History Breakfast" that drew a standing-room-only crowd.

The event brought together longtime residents and history enthusiasts to share memories and stories from East Williston's past. Guest speakers Pat Hurleigh, Tom Mohrman, Barbara Seixas, Chris Siciliano, Carla Strauss, and Judy Syvertsen reflected on their experiences growing up in the village while offering fascinating insights into the history of East Williston's roads, homes, businesses, and schools.

Attendees also learned about several significant moments in the village's history, including major fires that impacted the community over the years. Among the stories shared was the devastating fire that swept through North Side Elementary School on March 2, 1957, a memorable event that remains an important part of the village's history.

The breakfast was part of East Williston's yearlong Centennial Celebration, commemorating 100 years since the village's incorporation in 1926. The event provided residents with a unique opportunity to connect with the community's past while celebrating the people and stories that have helped shape East Williston over the last century.

The Centennial Celebration continues next month with a presentation on the history of the Long Island Rail Road, scheduled for March 14 at 2 p.m. in Village Hall. Additional upcoming events include the Centennial Gala on April 23 and the burial of a community time capsule on April 25.
