Willets Road students focus on fire safety with poster contest

East Williston students show off their posters for the Albertson Fire Department Fire Safety and Appreciation Poster Contest.

63 students in grades five through seven at Willets Road School in East Williston participated in the Albertson Fire Department Fire Safety and Appreciation Poster Contest, using their artistic talents to spread awareness for fire safety and show thanks to local firefighters. The artworks were on display at Albertson’s Open House, allowing visitors to see students’ hard work in person.

15 students were named winners in the contest, receiving a certificate of achievement and a Carvel gift card:

• Fifth grade winners: Thomas Dorrien, Matthew Tomei, Caroline Mahoney, Abigail Jung and Emilia Cice

• Sixth grade winners: Emerson Schwartz, Audrey Li, Arianaz Sheikhlar, Julian Lu and Vivienne Yee-Chan

• Seventh grade winners: Daniel Isakov, Benjamin Speranza, Harper Harris, Aisha Mohsin and Lillian Cheung

The poster contest helps foster creativity while educating students on fire safety. It also builds a connection between students, the Albertson Fire Department and the East Williston community, and celebrates not only artistic talent but also the shared goal of keeping the community safe and connected.

“I’m so proud of the incredible participation we had in the Fire Safety Poster Contest,” said Melinda Gomez, art teacher at Willets Road School. “Our students did a fantastic job, working independently and dedicating their free time to create these projects. The level of effort, creativity, and skill I saw was truly amazing. As an art teacher, I couldn’t be prouder of our talented students.”
