Herricks High School’s Opus 67 earns high honor from national literary program

Herricks High School's literary magazine, Opus 67, has been awarded the distinction of Superior from the NCTE REALM program for 2025.

Herricks Public Schools announced that Opus 67, Herricks High School’s student-run literary magazine, has received a Superior rating from the National Council of Teachers of English Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) program for 2025.

Opus 67 publishes a range of literary work, including short prose, poetry, essays, as well as visual art and photography. The magazine is curated by students and reflects their dedication to writing and editing, resulting in a publication that highlights the talents of the school community.

The NCTE REALM program recognizes outstanding literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers.

The district congratulates the editorial staff, student contributors and faculty advisor Alan Semerdjian for their efforts. Mr. Semerdjian said, “It is no surprise that the student team who worked on Opus 67 received a distinction of ‘Superior’ in NCTE’s prestigious REALM award. The editors and staff worked tirelessly last school year to deliver an incredible journal that showcases the outstanding original creative work of our community. Herricks is a home for young writers.”
