From T-Ball to Cooperstown Champions
Congratulations to East Williston Little League alumni and residents Freddy Frost and Mateo Lai on winning the 2026 Cooperstown Championship!
Their baseball journey began at six years old when they signed up for East Williston Little League, a community tradition whose roots stretch back to the early 1960s. Together, these boys progressed from T-ball to coach pitch, Minors to Majors before continuing on to travel baseball.
In the 30 years since Cooperstown became a major destination for national youth baseball tournaments, Freddy and Mateo are the first two East Williston players to bring home a Cooperstown championship—playing for the Bayside Yankees.
Freddy was the starting and winning pitcher in the championship game, recording six strikeouts and finishing the tournament throwing 13Ks. At the plate, he blasted six home runs, 10 XBH, and drove in 16 RBIs.
Mateo delivered an incredible offensive performance, leading the team with a .567 batting average while hitting 10 home runs, scoring 19 runs, and collecting 27 RBIs.
Now entering eighth grade at The Wheatley School, Freddy and Mateo are looking forward to playing school baseball in the spring of 2027 and beginning the next chapter of their baseball journey.
Two local boys. Two outstanding performances. One unforgettable championship.
Congratulations, Freddy Frost and Mateo Lai! East Williston is proud of you both!
