Staying Safe on Our Roads: A Community Reminder
By Chris Orlando, Police Officer, 3rd Precinct POP Unit
The Nassau County Police Department and County Executive Bruce Blakeman are reminding drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to stay alert and practice safe habits on the road. Through their “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow” campaign, the county is sharing essential traffic safety tips to help prevent accidents and save lives.
Drivers are urged to slow down at intersections, watch for pedestrians and motorcycles, and use extra caution in construction zones. Pedestrians should always walk on sidewalks or face traffic, cross at designated crosswalks, and stay alert for turning vehicles. Cyclists are encouraged to wear helmets, ride with traffic, and stop before crossing intersections.
The message is simple but critical: A text or call can wreck it all. Staying focused and following traffic rules can make all the difference.
For emergencies, call 911. To report a crime, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
Together, we can make our roads safer for everyone.
